Aerith
A young girl from the Midgar slums. Aerith is the last surviving "Ancient", or Cetra, one of an itinerant race that lived on the Planet a long time ago. It is said that the Ancients will unlock the Promised Land, a place of supreme happiness – and also, incidentally, a land overflowing with Mako energy. It is this rumour that has caught the attention of both President Shinra and AVALANCHE, and Aerith becomes the unwitting target of both groups, each of which hopes to exploit her knowledge toward their own ends.
